Over the last few years, you have most likely heard of the new diet trend, “The Keto Diet”. Especially if you are on social media, you have definitely been exposed to the idea of a keto diet. This is due to the fact that many fitness influencers are now promoting their lifestyle and health transition since beginning the keto diet. The keto diet trends has caused a rise in demand for Keto-Friendly supplements. With new trends always arising, the supplement industry is always evolving. Whether a consumer or manufacturer, it is important to be up-to-date and research these trends.

What does “Keto” Mean?

The word Keto is short for ketosis. Ketosis a very normal metabolic process that the body performs in order to keep functioning. When the body does not have enough carbohydrates from food for the cells to burn for energy and fuel, the body will burn fat instead. During this process, the body makes ketones. Ketone is a natural chemical produced in the liver that are made from fat and help to serve as a fuel source. Ketones are only produced when very little carbohydrates are consumed.  The purpose of the ketogenic diet is to try and burn unwanted body fat by training the body to rely on fat for energy, rather than the carbohydrates.

What is the Ketogenic Diet?

The keto diet involves consuming very minimal carbs and consuming a higher amount of fat, protein, and fiber to help train the body into to burn fat for energy instead of carbohydrates or glucose. On a keto diet, the body switches its fuel supply to run mostly on fat and can help with weight loss. The most important thing to reach ketosis and help the body burn fat is to avoid consuming too many carbs, and consume a higher amount of fat and protein.

There are numerous benefits to the keto diet. One of the main benefits is that it helps with healthy weight loss, due to the fact the body is burning fat for energy. Studies have shown that a compared to other diets, low-carb and keto diets result in more effective weight loss. Another benefit is appetite control. On the keto diet, the body is more likely to gain control over appetite since the body is in a fat burning state. When the body is in a fat burning state, it has access to stored energy and significantly reduces feelings of hunger.

Recent Keto Trends:

Aside from seeing the popularity of keto diet trends through the media, it takes a quick google trends search to see that “keto diet” searches on google were non-existent & dramatically increased just over a year.

As the chart shows, keto has taken over when compared to searches with keto. Paleo was at one time the diet that was making headlines, and keto has clearly become more popular. With the keto craze now going mainstream, there is now a demand for keto-friendly products on the market. A demand for keto-friendly products means that this is the time to dive into the supplement industry if you have an innovative product.

Keto Foods & Products:

Since the keto diet follows low-carb, high fats and protein, it makes sense that food items and products are focused on this.  Seafood, low-carb vegetables such as  brussel sprouts, kale, broccoli, & cauliflower, meat & poultry, coconut oil, olive oil, and nuts & seeds (just to name a few!) Some of the best dietary supplements that are keto friendly include: Fish oil, MCT oil, Magnesium, Vitamin D, Creatine, Tribulus, Glutamine, and Carnitine. There is obviously a longer list of what supplements and food items are keto-friendly, but these examples put into perspective how important the low-carb aspect of this diet is.

As far as keto supplements, most of them include MCT oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Electrolytes, and Digestive Enzymes. So as long as keto is trending and popular, these types of supplements will be high in demand.

What does the Rise of Keto Products Mean for You?

As a consumer, the rise of keto products means that if you are on the keto diet or looking to start, you have a few options now but will definitely start to see more soon! First, do your research and look at the supplement facts of the products. Make sure that the ratios of fat and protein align with your macros and what you need to consume to help reach your fitness goals.  Always check the supplement panel to see if there is any additives that could hurt your goals. Second: Be alert! There are always new trends and information being released from studies on these trends. Research and stay up relevant with what is going on in the health and fitness world.

As a supplement company,  the rise of keto diet products means that this is the perfect time for you to jump in on this opportunity. Whether you currently own a supplement brand or are looking into this venture, developing a keto product could be your way to increase revenue and increase brand awareness. As of right now, keto seems to be a trend that shows no signs of slowing down or stopping. Just like a consumer, do your research and make sure that keto products will be the best move for your company.
